Swagbucks: Earn Rewards for Searching Online

I am in love with Swagbucks.  I’ve considered writing poetry to it, I love it so much.

Swagbucks is an online search engine that rewards you for searching online. Seriously…that’s all you have to do. It only takes a minute to sign up and you’ll receive 30 Swag Bucks immediately*.  Once you download the toolbar, you’ll start earning points just by searching the web. After only 300 points (called SB’s) earned, you can redeem your points for a free Amazon gift card. Or you can wait a little longer and choose from dozens of other prizes.

*Note: If you are uncomfortable downloading the toolbar, you can also earn SB’s by searching at Swagbucks.com.  It works just the same way!

You will most likely earn 10-30 SB’s per day for on-line searching, and they will randomly be rewarded to you. So you could easily earn your first gift card ($3 for Amazon.com for 300 SBs or $5 gift cards to any number of stores for 500 SBs) within the first month or two. (Learn more about the rewards Swagbucks offers here.)

I recommend checking out the menu bar at the top of Swagbucks.com to find even more earning opportunities. You can also check out my tips and tricks for the easiest ways to earn Swagbucks.  There are lots of other fun ways to earn in addition to searching online like watching videos, taking surveys, playing games and more.

One of my favorite ways to earn is through referrals.  If a friend signs up through your referral link, you will earn 10% of the Swag Bucks they aren for life! So invite others to join you in your Swag Bucks love and then just sit back and let others do the work for you!  Simply click on the ‘Refer Friends’ button in the navigation bar to find out how to share your referral link with friends.

Hey…what are you waiting for?  Sign up now and start earning!

*NOTE: For a limited time, use my exclusive code CHACHING70 to start off with 100 FREE swag bucks when you sign up here! (Just look for the text, “I have a sign up code.”)

More helpful Swagbucks tips:

Estimated daily time investment: Varies based on your involvement (approx. 1-20 minutes)
Estimated Swag Bucks earned in  a year with no referrals: 5000 = $55 in Amazon gift cards
Referrals incentive: Get up to 1000 matching Swag Bucks per referral!

can you add people with out making a new account

kaleyehret June 12, 2009 at 11:22 am

You can invite people to sign up under your account by clicking ‘promote’ at the top of the swagbucks site. You can then send people e-mails or use banners to refer people using your account. This week, any new members can use code: SHOESTRING to get an additional 3 swagbucks added to their account.

Does that answer your question?

Hi there – is it not 450 points for an Amazon card, not 45? I am just getting used to SB – thanx!

kaleyehret April 28, 2010 at 12:54 pm

You are right, Wendy! When I first posted this, Swag Bucks had a different system and I forgot to make the change in this post.

Thanks for catching it!

I think of Swagbucks as my Christmas fund too! I am always wary of “free” money activities on the web, but Swagbucks is SO easy, I don’t even have any referrals I just do normal searching, and I have gotten 4 Amazon GC for $5 in just a few months. I think this is the best prize they have b/c you can get almost anything at Amazon, including used items. I love it!

I have had problems with downloading Toolbars in the past and getting a virus from it. You haven’t had this problem with this toolbar?

kaleyehret January 1, 2010 at 3:11 pm

No, Kim, I haven’t had this problem. I don’t blame you for being wary if this has happened to you in the past. However, I have not heard of anyone getting a virus from this toolbar. Both my husband and I have downloaded it without a problem.

Kim, I was just doing a search for this and stumbled upon this page. YES! I have gotten a virus 4 times now from downloading it. The first two times, it didn’t even dawn on me that that was what was causing it. It was a very malicious virus, where my whole computer started messing up, I couldn’t even do a system restore from the start menu, because everytime I would click on ANYTHING, it would stop my actions and shut out the page. I have had this computer for 3 years, and never, not one problem until a few weeks ago, about two days after I downloaded the toolbar, and bam, got that horrid virus. So I had to shut down my computer manually, and then start it back up pressing F11 to do a manual override for system restore back to factory settings. This really upset me, because I’ve had pics of my kids saved on this pc for 3 years, including the pictures of my youngest son’s birth, etc. Thank God some of them are on my myspace, so I can retrieve them. Anyway, after I started all over again from scratch, the computer was working great. 2 or 3 days later, I went to re-install the toolbar, that night, same virus came back. Still didn’t put two and two together. Same thing, system restore. Again, the computer is working great, a few days later, I re-install the tool bar. Same night, got hit again. Then I started wondering, IS IT the toolbar? So again, I restore, blah blah blah. I was leary the fourth time about re-installing it, so I thought I would hold out a few days, see what happens before I did it. I waited a WEEK. Computer ran great, no problems. So I thought, okay, one more time, if I get a virus after this, I KNOW it’s the toolbar. So I again, re-install the program, same night, bam. Got hit again. THAT’S IT! I was ticked. How something that’s suppose to be helpful is actually harmful! I once again did a system restore, but believe you me, I will NEVER re-install that thing again! I still use swagbucks religiously, but now I just manually type in the url, and use it that way. And the last system restore I did was a week and a half ago, and since I did the last one, and did NOT re-install the toolbar, my computer has been working great, not one problem! =)

In regards to the toolbar and viruses, I use AVG and it just detected a virus, and the toolbar won’t work now. So I’m pretty sure it is the swagbucks toolbar.

Hi Kaley!

Are things like Swagstakes worth it? I’ve been wary of trying them out.

Thanks! I just started with Swagbucks a couple of weeks ago, and I’m ready to cash in for my first Amazon gift card :) YAY ME! and THANK YOU!!

kaleyehret July 30, 2010 at 5:53 pm

Hi, Cathy! I’ve actually never tried a Swagstakes. I think there are so many Swag Bucks users that chances are pretty slim that I’d actually win something. I’d rather play it safe and save my Swag Bucks for something I know I can earn.

That’s just me though–I’m sure some people would disagree!

Cathy July 31, 2010 at 1:06 am

Hello again Kaley,

I was searching around, and was unable to find this info. How long does it take before the Amazon gift card shows up, and do they actually mail it to you?

Thank you!

kaleyehret July 31, 2010 at 8:46 pm

Hi, Cathy! Here’s the info from Swag Bucks:

Hope that helps!

Cathy August 4, 2010 at 11:04 pm

Thanks, Kaley! Here’s to hoping that I’ll qualify for some of those surveys!! Wow, is that difficult!!

Have a great one!

SwagBucks Mom August 23, 2010 at 3:27 pm

Just earned my first Paypal payment with SwagBucks. Paypal takes more swagbucks to get than a comparable Amazon giftcard, but I’d rather have the cash so I can use it anywhere.

DiAnna January 28, 2011 at 2:46 pm

I am new to swagbucks… just started actually. I am curious… do you really make money with this? How often do you aquire the $5 gift card, and do you do the surveys and all of that or just use the search engine? I would appreciate any insight you might have… Thank you!

Kelly March 25, 2011 at 12:55 pm

I just sign up through your link. I hope you got points for the referring. And thank you for giving me the information to earn something. Thanks. ^_^

Kelly March 25, 2011 at 1:12 pm

Question. I have connect with my FB and also download the toolbar, but I did not earn the buck. I also use the website to search, but i did not see any bucks show up. How it actually works?? Thanks.

kaleyehret March 25, 2011 at 1:52 pm

Hi, Kelly! Did you enter code: HelpJapan in the Swag Code box on your home page? That should give you 50 extra Swag Bucks.

You will randomly earn Swag Bucks as you continue to search. The amounts will vary, but it’s easy to earn if you make sure to search every day.

Let me know if that helps!

Maryann May 23, 2013 at 10:16 pm

Dianna September 2, 2013 at 10:26 am

This is so cool. I love Amazon shopping with Swagbucks!!

Nikki2345 January 14, 2014 at 9:59 pm

When you use amazon gift cards, how do you pay taxes and shipping? I’m fearful of using a credit card. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Kaley January 14, 2014 at 10:17 pm

Amazon gift cards will cover tax and shipping as well, if you have enough. Hope that helps!

nikki2345 January 14, 2014 at 11:16 pm

Oh ok thanks . I had read somewhere that the gift card does not cover shippingcost of taxes and shipping that’s why I wondered what others
do. Thanks for the info.
