Check out my savings for the week below:
Savings from coupons and store sales: $143.80
- Rite Aid: I did this moneymaking deal at Rite Aid, plus I got most of the free after rebate items. Saved $80.89.
- Target:I didn’t get a chance to post about my savings at Target last week. I got all of these free items and a few more great deals. Saved $40.58.
- Giant: Saved$20.33.
- Walgreens: Did this gum deal at Walgreens. Saved $2.
Savings from ‘Free Money’: $15.00
- Over the past few weeks, I have received some sort of freebie in the mail almost every single day. Whether it be a free cereal sample, a lip gloss sample, a free magazine subscription, or a free Playtex sample, over time these things begin to make a dent in our budget. Not to mention, going to my mailbox is a highlight of my day! (By the way, you can check out my latest freebies posts here.)
Savings from cutting costs: $500
- Our four year old, Griffin is so ready for school. But when we made the move to Pennsylvania, we left behind free pre-school in New York. We weren’t quite ready to jump into a school bill, so we opted to try out some good ol’ home schoolin’. I’m having some fun returning to my teaching roots and watching Griffin learn exciting new things. I think that’s what you call priceless.
TOTAL SAVINGS:$658.80
TOTAL SAVINGS THIS YEAR: $3956.44

Education is priceless, for sure, but it’s also well worth the money. If home-schooling suits you and your child, then enjoy. But if your hesitation to send him to preschool is financial, or primarily so, I would think again about where to make a few cuts. School is great, and preschool is a magical experience for kids. I think it’s a privilege to allow kids those first baby steps towards individuality, towards independence, towards — and this is huge — making their own friends and solving their own problems. Preschool is a good place to start this.
Is preschool about skills? To me, a 20yr teacher, the answer is, sort of. It’s really about stepping tentatively and then boldly into the world, with a safety net right there. Talk about priceless!

Anna,
I understand where you are coming from. I in no way intended to sound as though I was celebrating saving money at my son’s expense.
The reality is that after a year and a half of dealing with unemployment, we simply could not take on an additional expense that could be met creatively through homeschooling. It would not have been wise.
As a former teacher, I am a big fan of school too! I can’t wait for Griffin to experience it. He is such a social kid and really excels when around his peers. I know he will love it.
But for now, I am treasuring this time with him at home. It’s a joy and privilege to teach him. Not only that, but I am confident that we are doing a great job of preparing him to step boldly into the world. (If you knew him, I’m sure you would agree!)
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Absolutely! The Cha-Ching Challenge is an opportunity for everyone to share their savings! And I’m not opposed to highlighting a blog more than once if I think they deserve it. =)
