I decided it’s time for another giveaway just because…
I’m feeling especially grateful for my readers these days. In the past month, over 1,000 new subscribers have joined Cha-Ching on a Shoestring. Yesterday we reached 1,000 fans on Facebook (and counting!). And I know that much of the reason we keep growing is because of the way you all spread the word.
So thank you.
{I wish I could give each of you a $10 Starbucks Gift Card, but alas that ain’t gonna happen.}
BUT I DO have a $10 Starbucks gift card for ONE lucky reader.
You have up to five ways to enter:
REQUIRED:
- Simply leave a comment sharing one reason YOU are feeling grateful today. (And no…you don’t receive an extra entry if you say you are grateful for me!)
OPTIONAL:
- Subscribe to our feed in a reader or by e-mail and leave a comment letting me know you subscribed. If you are already a subscriber, simply let us know in a comment.
- Follow me on twitter. Leave a comment on this post letting me know you are a follower.
- Become a fan of Cha-Ching on a Shoestring on facebook and leave a comment on this post letting me know. If you are already a fan, simply let me know in a comment. (I love comments on the facebook page as well, but those will not count toward the giveaway!)
- You will receive an extra entry if someone else leaves a comment saying that you sent them here. They will need to leave your first and last name or the name of your blog. (Tell all your friends! That could be a lot of extra entries!)
Note: Be sure to leave separate comments on this post for each entry. That will give you a greater chance of winning!
This giveaway ends at 10:00 a.m. EST on Monday, March 2, 2010. I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment. Winner will be notified by email and listed on this site.

Why I am feeling grateful today…..Recently I started back to college and have turned my Life Around
The dream of going to college becomes short-circuited for many people in today’s world. Financial insufficiency, unexpected pregnancy, early marriage and other factors interrupting the educational process can cause some students not to even finish high school let alone go to college. In spite of these factors, however, the dream does not die for most people. It lies dormant in the midst of hope that someday, somehow the opportunity to continue the interrupted education will arise.
I have not had a fairytale childhood; my mother was married and divorced more times than I can count on one hand. Each marriage was more and more difficult on me as her misfortunes and turmoil affected me as well. This probably instilled a more rebellious and laxed attitude toward order and responsibility. I have not always lived my life as one should, or even close to what I know my potential could have been. I have continually procrastinated, made excuses and did all I could to not take responsibility for my own life. I have always taken the back seat and just watched life go by; forever thinking someone would be there to bail me out. One day, two years ago something happened that basically devastated my life. I was left homeless, jobless and hopeless. It took me begging the last of my friends to help me out of the mess I put myself into and take pity on me. I managed to find a place to live, to find a part time job and started to think about what I wanted the rest of my life to be like.
I started to look at schools and colleges in my area, knowing I didn’t have the grades in high school to actually get into a brick and mortar college, I still applied to six. All of them declined my acceptance. I then decided to look into online education, and ended up choosing Kaplan University because they offered a Bachelors of Science in legal studies. I have always found the law an interesting and complex conundrum. Having my notary public appointment already I thought that would put me a step closer to getting in. Well, it didn’t, but a placement test and a promise to try my best and I actually got accepted.
I have managed to maintain a 3.5 GPA after six semesters and couldn’t be more proud of the accomplishment. This ignited a competition in me, the competition of what my old life was and what my new life could be. I’m glad I got the opportunity to better myself, but money is tough right now, I am in school fulltime and on unemployment which doesn’t really cover my rent and utilities. Further challenges exist in obtaining funding for college due to the fact that the adult student is not typically or traditionally given consideration in college funding programs. I am trying my best to build a future for myself, even at the late age of 38, but am in great need of assistance. Not the help I used to look for, hoping people would pay my way while offering nothing in return. I am looking for the opportunity to rebuild my life, obtain an education, and give back when I have the means.
One of the most inspiring and personally encouraging quotations I know is one by the American writer and teacher William Arthur Ward states: “If you can imagine it, you can achieve it; if you can dream it, you can become it.” As long as I continue to believe wholeheartedly I will work with sustained purpose toward my goals, and achieve them
