True Confessions: I approached the task of totaling up my spending and saving for the past month this morning with fear and trepidation. In all honesty, couponing has taken a back seat this summer. (Oh who am I fooling…it wasn’t even in the car.) And as I added up my numbers this morning, my stomach turned a bit with each receipt that I entered.
I considered not even posting this. But I’ve promised that I would be real with you all, so here’s the truth: couponing takes time and effort. And when life is busy and kids aren’t in school and I’d rather be spending time with family and friends enjoying the beautiful summer, I end up spending way more money than I like.
And that’s the truth. Just keeping it real.
Savings from coupons and store sales: $141.09
- Spent $411.91 in the past month. Saved $141.09.
TOTAL SAVINGS:$141.09
TOTAL SAVINGS THIS YEAR: $2697.41

the only thing i’ve done is saved by not spending – we’ve lived off my stockpiles and garden (plus our csa). i am sad that i totally missed picking blueberries, but we’re going for peaches next week! i’ll start over again in september and so will you!

Here’s to new beginnings, Sheri!

There is nothing wrong with putting your family before coupons; I’d kinda worry a bit if you did. 😉 I too have been on a couponing vacation—way too long now, I keep meaning to get back into the groove of things. Last night I went grocery shopping and only used 1 coupon for 55 cents, it was rather embarrassing. You’re doing a bazillion times better than me, so you should be proud of yourself. You don’t have to save hundreds and hundreds of dollars each month. 🙂

Thanks, Jen. So true. I want all my readers to know that too, so thanks for the reminder.

Don’t be so hard on yourselves truth is that food keeps going up and the deals are getting fewer and farther between. The companies had to clear the shelves of all the product that was in the larger pkgs and they did it at discount, secondly they had over produced and had to clear some of that as well , now companies have cut back they are sending less to stores more folks are out of work and prices just go up every week (watch your price books, .30 here .40 there everything is going up)
So even if you were couponing like crazy you still might find the same result so feel great that you spent the time with your families instead.
In a few weeks kids will be back in school and you can readjust you schedules but you may find that the budgets just don’t want to adjust no matter what deep discounts and coupons you find.

Thanks so much, Janet.

I’m sitting here nodding my head in agreement.
I too have spent more than I would have liked but you can’t put a price (or savings) on time with loved ones. We have had fun with our out-of-state family members, attended many graduation parties, birthday parties, family reunions, picnics and ballgames. Maybe I could have saved $$ but I can save next month; we don’t get a do-over to spend time with family and friends : )

Thanks so much, Cath. I consider the time that I spent with family to be priceless, so I guess it far outweighs the $ I spent on food. 🙂
