Ask the Readers: Good Freezer Cooking Recipes?

For those of you who’ve been wanting to see a good pregnancy pic of me, here I am in all my glory!  And I begged pleaded asked my husband and son very nicely if they would please share the spotlight of their bellies with me.  They’re such good sports.

This post isn’t really about my belly.  But it is about filling our bellies after the baby is born.  Yesterday on Facebook, I asked for some good recipes or suggestions for meals that I could cook up now and freeze for those first crazy, awesome, sleep-deprived weeks.

I got such great answers that I thought, “Why not ask everyone?” just in case you aren’t following me on Facebook.  (By the way, I’d love for you to follow me on Facebook.  We have a great time over there!)

So…does anyone have some suggestions for good freezer cooking meals?  I’d love any advice, recipes, links, or suggestions you have to offer!  As you can see, I have some bellies that will need to be filled!

Quiche and egg/breakfast casseroles and burritos freeze well too. Wrap up individual servings and they’re a breeze to reheat in the microwave – even faster if you’re awake enough the night before to remember to put them in the fridge to thaw.

Lasagna (you need to make as airtight as possible, so put a cover of plastic wrap over the top and push it down to keep the air off), meat sauce – either just with meat or bolognese – freeze into portions in ziplocs or containers, frozen veg – just pop in the microwave for 2-3 minutes with a tablespoon or so of water, chili, sloppy joes, chocolate chip cookies (you’ll need some snacks 😉 ) ….. really any kind of casserole would be OK, just depending on how you store. And, IMHO, the best way to do it is double or triple recipes (one for tonight and some for later) Good luck!

Sorry I can’t be of help with your receipe search (I hate to cook at all and I’m not good at it ~ thank goodness my husband is a great cook!) but I just had to tell you what an adorable picture that is of you and your family! 🙂
Love your site and it’s very helpful to me! Thanks for all your hard work!

I recently stumbled across this blog post through pintrest and wanted to give it a try. Love the combo of freezer and slow cooker. If you do try, you’ll have to let me know how it works! Of course, I’ll do the same. Love the pic! =)

Love it, Alicia. How easy to have meals that I can just throw in the crockpot? Thanks!

I’m not good at freezer cooking at all. I ruined what I made when I was pregnant with number 2. Basically it spoiled in the freezer. I guess I didn’t seal it correctly. Just wanted to say you look great!! Love this picture.

Thanks, Crystal and thanks for the tip…I’ll have to make sure I seal my meals properly. 🙂

You look terrific! Pregnancy is such a beautiful time; the only thing more beautiful is
The first cry as a baby is born into my hands. There is no better job in the world.

Sauces and meats (if you eat meat) both freeze well. Soups (veg, chicken corn) also freeze nicely.
It’s been my experience pasta and potatoes do not seem to hold their texture and thaw out
    Mushy.
Did I miss the post where you told readers when you are due?

I’m due May 2nd, although I’m guessing the end of April. A little over a month!

      Thanks for the tips, Cath!

Try http://www.onceamonthmom.com – they post monthly menus for a plan to prep meals once for almost a whole months worth…you can pick and choose what you like and stock your freezer with freezer-friendly meals. My favorite are the ones where you prep everything for a crockpot meal in a gallon freezer bag, then when you want to use it, rip open the bag and dump frozen contents into the crockpot. And you done! The hardest part is remembering to start it that morning when you’re so sleep deprived!
God Bless as you prep for your new little one!
