FYI – I was in Target yesterday and tried to purchase two lip balms at $1.79 each. It did not prompt a $5 gift card at the register so the cashier told me to go to customer service. The girl at customer service asked someone on the floor to check the hangtag. When the hang tag stated the deal on the lip balm tag a manager got involved. The manager took my lip balms and went to another register. After about five minutes I tracked down the register and saw my lip balms there but no one else. I took them back to customer service who still had my receipt. Finally the floor person came to tell me that the deal did not apply to the lip balm because it was not a suncare product. I decided to return the lip balms since I was only doing the deal to get a gift card. Needless to say the customer service I received was awful. Bottom line I would be wary about using the lip balm in the deal. Maybe it did not work because two lip balms did not total over $5. I would be curious to hear if deals worked with the lip balm.

The sale signs specifically state that the you cannot buy 2 lip balms to receive the gift card. Per policy, the total dollar amount must be greater than the gift card amount. You could buy 1 lip balm & 1 of the other products & then get the gift card. Signs are tricky, make sure to read them & the fine print.
