Cha-Ching challenge

Welcome to the weekly

Cha-Ching Challenge Highlight!

I am pleased to announce our
Cha-Ching Challenge Highlight Winner.

This week’s highlight is Penny Pinching Diva!

Shynea is a 26 year old stay-at-home mom to four little boys, 7, 6, 1 and a 7 months. (Whew! How she finds the time to create such an adorable site is beyond me!)  She writes:

“I also want to help others out there, who like myself, live on one income and want to stretch their dollars as far as they will go. I love catching sales, finding amazing steals at yardsales, couponing, CVS’ing, frugal cooking and anything else that will make my family look like they’re “living large” on less then $10. I hope that by reading my blog, you will laugh and hopefully find inspiration to “pinch-a-penny” as well.”

Check out her post, sharing how she saved 61% at Walmart last week.  IMPRESSIVE.  Great job, Shynea!

While you are there,  make sure you check out her daily Mommy Seal of Approval Giveaways going on this week!

Cha-Ching challenge

Welcome to the weekly Cha-Ching Challenge!

Did you find a HOT deal this week that you just want to share?  You’ve come to the right place!  Every week I post the Cha-Ching Challenge, sharing my savings for the week.    Add a link to your post detailing your savings for the week OR your favorite deal of the week. I’ll choose one participating blog to highlight next week right here on Cha-Ching on a Shoestring.

I’ve changed things up to make it even easier for you to post your favorite deals.  You can now add them to Mr. Linky at any time.  In order to be considered for the Cha-Ching Challenge Highlight, just be sure to add your link no later than Tuesday at midnight EST.

I’d like to share a little bit about my spending this week.  I actually spent more than usual and struggled with feeling badly about it for a little while.  I bought some clothes for Griffin ($46) because we haven’t found a whole lot at yard sales.  And I bought two dresses ($50) because Griffin is in a wedding this weekend and I needed one for the rehearsal and one for the wedding.  On top of that, Wes, Griffin, and I all got our hair cut.

I had to remind myself that this is not the norm for me and the whole reason we budget is so we can spend money on items like these when needed.  So instead of feeling badly, I want to feel grateful that we have this money to spend!

Check out my savings for the week below:

Savings from coupons and store sales: $16.25

  • Here’s what I saved in my Big Race through Target: $16.25

Savings from ‘Free Money’: $3.43

  • Wes signed up for Pinecone Research and received a $3 check in the mail for completing a survey last week.
  • I just realized I didn’t check my YouData account this week.  So I just did and got $.43 for clicking a few buttons!

Savings from a little bit of hard work: $57

  • We held a yard sale last weekend!  While $57 may not seem like a lot, we were pleased considering we held it in a more rural area.  PLUS we got rid of my old manual treadmill and Wes’s old NordicTrack which were simply taking up space–AWESOME.

TOTAL SAVINGS:$76.68

TOTAL SAVINGS THIS YEAR: $2057.99 (we hit the $2000 mark!)

Welcome to the weekly

Cha-Ching Challenge Highlight:

This week’s highlight is Goo Goo Buy Buy!

Blog author Amy Joyner Buchanan is a former personal finance writer and the author of five business books, including “The eBay Millionaire” and “The Online Millionaire.” She lives in Greensboro, NC with her husband, Bruce, and almost 2-year-old son, Jackson.

Check out her post detailing how she spent only $11.90 on about $93 in merchandise.  Great job, Amy!  And may I add kudos to your husband for surviving the shopping trip!

While you are there,  I recommend reading her We’re Going Grocery Free post.  It’s a great challenge to use what we’ve stockpiled in our cupboards.  And I LOVE LOVE LOVE her Stockpile Spreadsheet.  Such a great idea!

Welcome to the weekly

Cha-Ching Challenge Highlight!

I am pleased to announce our
Cha-Ching Challenge Highlight Winner.

This week’s highlight is Living Rich with Coupons!

I like how Cindy describes herself:

“I am a wife, mom, gardener, decorator, organization nut. I love to watch sports, thinks Jack Bauer is the man, am a big Yankees fan and I drive a Mini Cooper. Other than all that I LOVE bargains. My family and friends laugh at my coupon binder but deep down I know they are really just jealous :)”    (Editor note: Go, Yankees!)

Check out her post sharing how she spent $53.10 and saved $65.47 last week.  Gotta love saving more than you spend!  Great job, Cindy!

While you are there, I recommend reading her Beginners section.  It is full of great tips and information for newbie couponers.

Savings by Surprise!: $1.50

  • While we were picking up our Sunday papers from the gas station, the wind started to blow and papers started flying everywhere.  Wes got out of the car to help the girl who was trying to collect them.  She told him that she was going to have to throw the paper away that he helped gather.  So we got a whole set of coupon inserts for free!  It saved us $1.50 on Sunday, but who knows how much those coupons will save us in the future?!
