If you have a Walgreens nearby, RUN to your local store and look for their Walgreens back to school coupon booklets located near the ads.  These are full of great Walgreens coupons which can be stacked with manufacturer’s coupons.  You only need one booklet because the cashier will simply scan the coupons right from the book!

Then clip your $.50/1 Huggies wipes coupons from this week’s Smart Source insert and your SS 7/19/09 insert and match them with the $2/1 Huggies Wipes coupon in the booklet to score a tub of Huggies wipes for only $.49!  (Regular price: $2.99)

Let me know how this goes for you.  There have been reports of cashiers lowering the Huggies coupon to only $1 per box because of a typo.  However, you may want to ask for a manager to explain this to you if this is the case.

Thanks, Abundant Food Savings!

Before you go, check out the rest of this week’s deals at Walgreens!

Check out my savings for the week below:

Savings from coupons and store sales: $47.58

  • CVS: Saved $3.96
  • Target: Saved $18.62 (scored two FREE Air Wick i-motion starter kits for my new house!)
  • ALDI: Saved $10
  • Toys R Us: We saved $15 by signing Griffin up for their birthday club and getting a $3 coupon and a FREE Thomas Wooden Train.  So fun!
  • Chuck E. Cheese: I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that the coupons that we got for signing up at Chuckecheese.com saved us about $15 when we took Griffin there on his birthday.  We even scored about 65 free tokens!

    Savings from ‘Free Money’: $19.00

    • Wes and I  have made around $2.00 this week from YouData.
    • I’ve deposited about $2 in my Upromise since the last time I reported.
    • Wes got accepted for Pinecone Research a while back and has done about 5 surveys.  He usually received his $3 check the following week!

    Savings from cutting costs: $30

    • Although the supplies for the fire truck birthday cake I am going to make today cost around $20, that’s still a savings of $30 for not simply purchasing one.  Plus, it’s going to be soooo much cuter…I hope!

    TOTAL SAVINGS:$96.58

    TOTAL SAVINGS THIS YEAR: $2888.55

    Birthdays on the Brain

Since both of my boys have birthdays in August, we are planning a joint birthday party for them tomorrow. We are keeping it super simple this year with the upcoming move looming before us. Just cake and ice cream for the food (this goes against every bone in my body since I come from a long line of Birthday Party Lovers. But, it has to be done!), a few party games and presents. Truthfully, I have spent a bit of time checking out gift guides (like this jeannie’s gift guide here), as if I can’t have a big party, then I want to make sure that I get them a present that they’ll both love. I just want to make sure that they both have fun on their birthday though (even without a big party). When I went to a friend’s son’s birthday party the kids had quite a lot of fun learning with songs, as they did a little educational sing along using youtube videos. I might try this as the kids had a lot of fun, and it was free. We’ll see.

For the cake, I signed up with the Price Chopper Baby Club and am therefore getting a free first birthday cake for Lincoln. It’s an 8 inch round–probably not enough to feed 30+ people, huh? So, I thought I’d just order another cake.

Until I found out it will cost around $50. Nope. Not gonna happen.

Which leaves making my own. I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t consider myself an Ace of Cakes. Not even close.

So, I was happy to discover this fire truck cake recipe from Family Fun that I think that even I, a self-proclaimed cake-making novice, can actually swing. Isn’t it cute? fire-truck-cake

I’ll let you know how it goes!

    ***In other Birthday News***

    • If you have kids under 10, don’t forget to sign your kids up for the Toys R Us Birthday Club. We received a $3 coupon (with which Griffin bought a Handy Manny Wallet) and a coupon for a free wooden Thomas train. Plus they gave Griffin a balloon and a birthday crown. He loved it!
    • We registered the boys at at chuckecheese.com and received some great coupons for Griffin’s little party we had there last week. They also sent a coupon for 20 free tokens for his birthday. (We won’t mention who used most of these coupons, but his name starts with W and rhymes with less!)
    • Don’t forget to register your birthday at coldstonecreamery.com. You’ll get a coupon for a free sundae on your birthday!
    • If you have a birthday in August, stop by Domino’s pizza on your birthday to receive a free lava crunch cake. More details are here.

Do you know of any other birthday freebies we should add to the list? Leave a comment and let us know!
