Cha-Ching challenge

Welcome to the weekly Cha-Ching Challenge!

Did you find a HOT deal this week that you just want to share?  You’ve come to the right place!  Every week I post the Cha-Ching Challenge, sharing my savings for the week.    Add a link to your post detailing your savings for the week OR your favorite deal of the week. I’ll choose one participating blog to highlight next week right here on Cha-Ching on a Shoestring.

Add your links to Mr. Linky at any time.  In order to be considered for the Cha-Ching Challenge Highlight, just be sure to add your link no later than Tuesday at midnight EST.

Check out my savings for the week below:

Savings from coupons and store sales: $98.33

Last Week:

  • Rite Aid: I made a killer Rite Aid run and scored 3 packages of Huggies diapers, 2 packages of Huggies Pull-Ups, and 2 bags of Doritos for FREE after Single Check Rebate and coupons.  Total cost would have been $37.43.
  • Walmart: Spent $30.35.  Saved $26.93 after coupons and the Fuel for School Rebate and Tyson Skillet Meal Rebate.
  • ALDI: Spent $26.91. Saved $5.oo.
  • Staples: Got two packs of paper which was free after rebate.  Saved $7.97.

This week:

  • ALDI: Spent $58.19.  Saved $20.
  • Walmart: Spent $3.36.  Saved $1.

Savings from great deals: $23

  • Before going on vacation with my family, I scouted out a great deal from Restaurant.com.  We bought a $25 gift certificate for only $2 for a great little restaurant near our campsite.  This deal is still good TODAY only.  Go here for more details.

Savings from cutting costs: $200

  • As I mentioned above, my family opted to go camping for our family vacation this year.  This is definitely a change for us.  We LOVE family vacation and have splurged in year’s past by going to the beach or nice hotels.  The past couple of years have been a little different since money is tight for many of us.  So we opted for camping to save some cash.  Vacation with my family is always fun and memorable and it really doesn’t matter where we are.  (Although we all agreed that camping may not happen again for us.  We don’t do torrential rain.)

I have to share one fun tid-bit from our family vacation, however.  My nephews, niece, sister, brother, and his girlfriend worked very hard to learn the dance moves to Thriller before vacation and then wowed us with a show.  My sister caught it on video.  You can watch it here.  I’ll admit, I wanted to join in!

TOTAL SAVINGS:$321.33

TOTAL SAVINGS THIS YEAR: $2691.19

Home Depot Movers Website

As excited as we are about our upcoming move, I have to admit that I’m dreading the moving process. The only moves that I remember are when I moved to Virginia to go to college, to Korea to teach for a few years, and when I moved into our current apartment. They were indeed stressful, but they were SOLO as well. I had no children or husband to consider. Just little old me. Saying this though, I know that there are companies like Cars Relo who could give me a helping hand when it comes to taking vehicles to the new place, or I know I have the option to ask my friends if they could help me out, which is good. It may not be as stressful as I initially thought, but we all know the moving process is never easy.

So, I am going to be on the alert for as many ways to make our move as stress-free as possible. Many of you already left some very helpful comments (thank you!) that I know will be useful to this novice mover. I’m also doing that internal debate in my head between cardboard or plastic boxes to use… I might use both, I’m just thinking of how much this time I’ll need to be moving and the best way to transport it!

I was also happy to discover the Home Depot Mover Website (thanks for the heads up, Barbi!). By signing up here, we can save up to 10% at Home Depot for all of the supplies that we will need when we make the big move (up to $200). Considering the fact that we have been renting and may need to buy a refrigerator, washing machine, dryer, stove, lawn mower… not to mention paint, tools, paintbrushes, and the list goes on… (Sheesh…did I say I wasn’t going to stress? Remind me of that, ok?)

The site also offers lots of great tips, resources, moving announcements and more. Go here to find out more!

Now if they’d just send somebody over to start packing boxes for me, we’d be all set.
