This year I decided to read the Christmas story to my four year old son while he acted it out with our Nativity Scene.
He provided a whole new take on the story.
I had no idea that there was so much punching the bad guy involved in the birth of Christ. But to be fair, we read the version that shares how Herod tried to kill Baby Jesus by killing all of the children under two years. He deserved a punch or two.
The other night we held our own little Christmas pageant at our church. My husband closed the evening by talking about the Upside-Down-Way of Christ.
If I were Jesus, I’m not sure I would have done this story this way. Why God chose to become a Baby and be born in a manger is a bit of a mystery.
If I were Jesus, there would be a whole lot more than punching the Bad Guy. The Bad Guy wouldn’t have a chance.
But it’s the way He does things. Upside-Down. He gives everyone a chance. He demonstrates real love in the form of this Baby. And offers Hope.
And it’s Beautiful.
I wish you all a very Beautiful Christmas.
