Cha-Ching challenge

Welcome to the weekly Cha-Ching Challenge!

Did you find a HOT deal this week that you just want to share?  You’ve come to the right place!  Every week I post the Cha-Ching Challenge, sharing my savings for the week.    Add a link to your post detailing your savings for the week OR your favorite deal of the week. I’ll choose one participating blog to highlight next week right here on Cha-Ching on a Shoestring.

Check out my savings for the week below:

After last week’s true confessions, I was happy to start to jump back into the couponing game this week.  Thanks so much for all of you who shared kind words with me as I shared some of my discouragement with spending more money over the summer.  It’s important to me that I encourage you all to not allow coupons and ECB deals to take precedence over what truly matters: making the most of the time that we have.  So, thanks for reminding me that coupons can wait, but making memories can’t!

Savings from coupons and store sales: $95.49

  • Spent $74.12 at Landis, Giant and CVS.  Saved $95.49.

Savings from ‘Free Money’: $81.90

  • I made $0.10 this week from YouData.  (Hey–every penny counts!)
  • Thanks to a special referral promotion from Ebates, I received a check for $80 this week.
  • Saved $1.80 with gas rewards at Landis.

Savings from creativity: $200

  • Thanks to my cousin Megan’s savvy decorating skills, I can’t even calculate how much money she helped me save on making over my office.  I’m sure I could have easily spent hundreds more dollars, but her ability to find ways to use what we have and make a room shine with a small budget was amazing!

TOTAL SAVINGS:$377.39

TOTAL SAVINGS THIS YEAR: $3074.80

True Confessions: I approached the task of totaling up my spending and saving for the past month this morning with fear and trepidation.  In all honesty, couponing has taken a back seat this summer.  (Oh who am I fooling…it wasn’t even in the car.)   And as I added up my numbers this morning, my stomach turned a bit with each receipt that I entered.

I considered not even posting this. But I’ve promised that I would be real with you all, so here’s the truth: couponing takes time and effort.  And when life is busy and kids aren’t in school and I’d rather be spending time with family and friends enjoying the beautiful summer, I end up spending way more money than I like.

And that’s the truth.  Just keeping it real.

Savings from coupons and store sales: $141.09

  • Spent $411.91 in the past month.  Saved $141.09.

TOTAL SAVINGS:$141.09

TOTAL SAVINGS THIS YEAR: $2697.41

Cha-Ching challenge

Welcome to the weekly

Cha-Ching Challenge Highlight!

I am pleased to announce our
Cha-Ching Challenge Highlight Winner.

This week’s highlight is Frugal Follies!

Laura writes that she is a “Loving wife and SAHM of 3 girls, always looking for great deals and love to pass on my wisdom (and my follies).”

Check out her post sharing how she used her savings savvy to save almost 50% at Publix last week.  I have to admit that I’m a bit jealous that she can use competitor’s coupons at her store.  That’s sweet! (I’m loving the blueberries for $0.50 too!)

While you are there, make sure to check out her Saving Money A to Z series for tons of great tips on stretching those dollars!

Would you like to join us in next week’s Cha-Ching Challenge?

Simply come back on Saturday and join the Cha-Ching Challenge by adding a link to your post sharing your great deals for the week!

First, let me apologize for my lack of posting the Cha-Ching Challenge lately.  Did I tell you guys we’ve had family living with us for the past three weeks?  It’s kind of a long story, but Wes’s brother and his wife and daughter stayed with us while they were looking for a place to live in the area.

So honestly, I kind of fell off the couponing wagon in the midst of the busy-ness.  Not to mention, our guests were super gracious in buying groceries while they were here, so I’m not sure what I spent and what they did!

I did manage to use a few coupons in the past few weeks, so I thought I’d share my savings and spendings from those trips as I dust myself off and climb right back on the wagon!

Savings from coupons and store sales: $92.11

  • Spent $34.55 at CVS and Landis.  Saved $92.11.

TOTAL SAVINGS:$92.11

TOTAL SAVINGS THIS YEAR: $2401.10

This week was a catch-up week for us.  The past few weeks have been so full, that I hadn’t been able to do any real grocery shopping for a while.  I realized we had an issue when we had no milk, bread or eggs in the house.   So I actually took some time to SHOP this week, which included a trip to Aldi with my trusty E-Mealz menu plan and grocery list.  I also shopped the sales at Landis, Giant and CVS.

Savings from coupons and store sales: $157.64

  • Spend $158.37.  Saved $157.64 (a savings of almost 50%!)

Savings from ‘Free Money’: $42.00

  • My $10 Target gift card came in the mail for signing up for an E-Z pay subscription for my local newspaper.  (Plus the subscription is less than the newsstand price!)
  • Used some Swag Bucks to purchase a box of diapers and a box of wipes.  (Potty training is in full swing here, so hopefully this is my last purchase like this!)

TOTAL SAVINGS:$199.64

TOTAL SAVINGS THIS YEAR: $2308.99
